What Can an IGCSE Teacher Earn? The Honest Breakdown

The four factors that actually drive IGCSE teacher income — subject, experience, student count and pricing — with an honest look at exam-session economics.

First, the honest disclaimer

No training program, including IG Career, can promise students or a specific income — and you should be suspicious of any that does. Income varies enormously by subject, experience, student count and pricing. What we can do is explain the structure of the market so you can model your own scenario realistically.

Think in exam sessions, not monthly salaries

The IGCSE market runs on exam sessions — June and November. A private IGCSE teacher typically agrees a fee per student covering a full session (a semester of preparation), not a per-lesson wage. That means your revenue model is: students per session × fee per student per session. One committed student across a full session can represent a fee comparable to — or higher than — the entire cost of professional certification.

This is why the IG Career page includes a session-scenario calculator: set a student count and an illustrative per-student fee and see the gross-revenue math for one session. It is a modelling tool, not a forecast.

The four levers you control

Subject: high-volume subjects (Mathematics, English, sciences) mean more students; scarce specialisms (Additional Mathematics, Sociology, Arabic first language) mean less competition. Experience and results: documented student outcomes let you raise prices session over session. Student count: online teaching and group classes expand capacity beyond your city. Pricing: positioning and professional presentation — a verified directory profile, clear communication with parents — justify premium fees. Training accelerates all four levers; it replaces none of them.
